Thyme essential oil was an oil in my cabinet that I had not used much. I had come across an eco cleaning spray that used Orange and Thyme and loved the smell of it and wanted to create my own but have not been successful in recreating the smell, I'm guessing they must have used synthetic oils or maybe a blend to make the smell.
After that failure my poor bottle of Thyme oil has been sitting neglected until I pulled the Thyme card from my essential oil oracle deck and thought hmmm maybe now I will dive into Thyme!
Thyme Essential Oil Uses:
Thyme has many benefits for the body and can be used in a range of ways. It's an absolute power oil for the immune system, and helps to reduce high stress levels. It's fierce energy supports and protects the immune system and is unequaled by other aromatic plant oils. Use it in diffuser blends or diffuse it by itself around your house when you feel seasonal threats coming on. You can pop one drop in some carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil, Almond or whatever you have and rub over your chest to help support your respiratory system.
It also supports tired aching bodies due to it's powerful antispasmodic action which can help improve circulation. Massage it into sore muscles, aches and pains and stiffness with a carrier oil.
Thyme oil is also good for your hair, add a drop to your shampoo and conditioner.
It is also known to support your memory, and support the nerves. Thyme Oil has been used traditionally since ancient times by Egyptians and Greeks to promote physical and mental strength. Add 1 or 2 drops to a cotton ball close your eyes and inhale. Notice for yourself the effects the oil has on your body, mind, spirit and emotions.
Thyme Essential Oil supports emotional healing it goes looking for things that are buried deep inside you. A good oil to use if you are doing shadow work, to bring up things you need to get out and heal. I use Thyme Oil or Copaiba with my TBM practice, if I have something bugging me that I can't get to the bottom of it's usually not that actual thing, it's something I've buried that I need to face.
Excerpt from The Essential Oils Complete Reference Guide by KG Stiles: "Energetically, thyme oil's effect to boost your lymphatic system helps self-esteem and confidence in your body to heal. The lymph system is connected to one's sense of self-worth for being supported and protected in life."
If you love to make smudge sticks or herb bundles add a couple of drops of Thyme Oil before you tie them together. Essential Oils are highly concentrated energy forms and will increase the energetic potential of the plants you have used in your smudge stick or herb bundle. Thyme Tea
I love using thyme essential oil in a simple cup of thyme tea. The easiest way is to use a small teapot that makes one or two cups. Add a teaspoon of honey, fill the pot with hot water, then add 1 drop only of thyme essential oil — that’s all you need.
It’s important to only use certified pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils that are suitable for flavouring when using oils internally. If you’re new to this, start slow and always do your own research. You can read more in my blog post about cooking with essential oils and internal use.
I’ve been making myself a cup of thyme tea in a beautiful teacup when I’m about to start writing a new blog post. While it’s traditionally linked with the throat chakra and self-expression, I’ve noticed it helps me express myself more honestly and clearly on the page. Thyme is also associated with courage and energy, which makes it a lovely companion when you need to stay focused and say what you really mean.
I love to work with one essential oil in each moon cycle. Diving into getting to know that oil especially if I haven't used it much. Or revisiting oils I love, to learn more about them and how they work on my system as I myself am growing or "becoming". I like to choose a new oil each new Moon then use it blends, have it open on my bedside table as I sleep, use it in recipes - cooking if it's ok to use internally or in diy products for my house, and body. And of course read up on that oil in every single aromatherapy and essential oil book I have or sometimes I even spend a day at the library looking through different essential oil books to see what else I come across and enjoying the library at the same time!
